Start SecureGURU Screen Saver

SecureGURU^TM System Monitor Console

Rotating beacon at the bottom-left corner indicates that SecureGURU is
running and monitoring your workstation.

To stop SecureGURU, right-click on the system tray icon and select Monitor >> Stop

Stopped beacon at the bottom-left corner indicates that SecureGURU
has stopped monitoring your workstation.

To start SecureGURU, right-click on the system tray icon and select Monitor >> Start

Check the Don't ask me again option if you do not want SecureGURU
to display the Close confirmation dialog.

SecureGURU will continue to run as an icon on the System tray (near the clock).

SecureGURU^TM Breach Notification

SecureGURU will automatically display the Settings Dialog when it runs for the first time on your system. Alternately,Click the Settings button to access the SecureGURU Configuration settings.

SecureGURU Breach Notification Settings

SecureGURU by default, detects attempted breach on your desktop if the number of unsuccessful login attempts equals or exceeds the value configured in the Number of failed login attempts interpreted as breach field.

However to enable SecureGURU to notify you about the breach by email,you will have to enable the Breach Notification by Email settings.

SecureGURU automatically sends you an email about the breach when the number of unsuccessful login attempts equals the configured value(this is called the first qualified breach) even when the workstation remains locked. If there are any more attempts following the first qualified breach ,SecureGURU will continue to monitor and capture all such breach attempts and write it to the SecureGURU Security Logs on your computer.

To enable Breach Notification by Email ,check the Notify me by email about the Breach option.

SecureGURU Breach Notification through Corporate Email Server

To enable Breach Notification by email via your company's corporate email server,check the Using Corporate Email Server in the list of Mailing Options.

• Fill in the relevant details.The default port for email server is 25.
• If you are behind a firewall,change the port number to the port mapped on the firewall.
• To ensure that the configured settings are working,click the Test Breach Notification button.

SecureGURU Breach Notification through FootPath SecureGURU Server

To enable Breach Notification by email via the FootPath SecureGURU server,check the Using FootPath SecureGURU Server in the list of Mailing Options.

• Fill in the relevant details.
• To ensure that the configured settings are working,click the Test Breach Notification button.

SecureGURU^TM Security Event-Log Archive Settings

SecureGURU periodically backs up your Security Event Logs as .EVT files to a predefined location on your computer to ensure that the Security event-logging remains active on your computer.

The Security Event-Log File(SecEvent.evt)  is located at the WINNT\system32\config location on your computer.SecureGURU automatically archives this file before clearing it ,once the file size reaches a preset percentage of the configured file size.

You can view the backed up .EVT files using the Windows Event Viewer.

Example:

If your operating system is installed at :

C:\WINNT

the Security Event-Log file will be archived to the following folder:
C:\WINNT\system32\config\event_log_archive

If the maximum configured size of the SecEvent.Evt file is 512KB and the archive percentage is set at 80 % ,then SecureGURU automatically archives this file when the size equals or exceeds 0.8 X 512KB = 410 KB.

The SecureGURU Archive Alert

To prevent excessive use of disk space,SecureGURU will automatically display an Archive Alert on the bottom-right corner of your desktop when the size of the Event-Archive folder(event_log_archive) exceeds 10 MB.

This archive alert will automatically close after 25 seconds and will be displayed when :

• SecureGURU is manually started
• SecureGURU starts each time your computer is started up
• The workstation is unlocked while SecureGURU runs in the background

NOTE:

• SecureGURU will clear the Security Event Log file (SecEvent.evt) ,but will not archive it until you clear the event_log_archive folder.
• The Archive Alerts will automatically cease once this folder is cleared and will be shown only when this folder reaches 10MB again.

SecureGURU^TM Security Log Settings

SecureGURU will log Breach notification messages to the Security logs on your computer. By default,the messages will be logged to the seclog.txt file in the SecureGURU program files directory.

Example:

If SecureGURU has been installed at the following path:
C:\Program Files\FootPath\SecureGURU then,

the logs will be written to :
C:\Program Files\FootPath\SecureGURU\logs

NOTE: Security logging will be automatically disabled if SecureGURU Breach Notification by email is disabled.

Writing Security Logs to user-defined location

To log Breach notification messages to some other location on your computer,check the at the location specified by me option under Log Security Checks to Security Logs ,and click Browse.

Select the folder location from the Browse for Folder dialog box and click OK.

Backing up Security Logs

SecureGURU can be configured to back up the security logs on your computer periodically,when the size of the logs exceed certain set limits.

By default,the security logs will be backed up when log-size exceeds 10KB.

Backing up Security Logs(Default option)

To enable default backup, check the Maintain default log-size(10KB) under the Critical Size of Log File before Backup list of options.

The Security Log Backup Location option will be automatically enabled.

Backing up Security Logs(User-defined option)

To set the log size limits to other than default size (10KB), check  Backup log when the file size exceeds under the Critical Size of Log File before Backup list of options.

The Security Log Backup Location option will be automatically enabled.

Select the size of the log size from the list box.

Example:

If 250 is selected from the list,SecureGURU will backup the log on your computer every time the file size exceeds 250KB.

Disabling Security Logs Backup

To disable backup , check  the Do not backup log files under the Critical Size of Log File before Backup list of options.

The Security Log Backup Location option will be automatically disabled.

NOTE:SecureGURU will automatically purge the Security logs when its file size exceeds 10KB. If the back up option is disabled, you will have to back up the log files to another location manually.

SecureGURU Security Log Backup Settings

SecureGURU will back up the Security log on your computer. By default,the messages will be backed up to the SecureGURU program files directory.

Example:

If SecureGURU has been installed at the following path:
C:\Program Files\FootPath\SecureGURU then,

the logs will be backed up at the following location :
C:\Program Files\FootPath\SecureGURU\logbaks

Backing up Security Logs to user-defined location

To backup security log to some other location on your computer, check the Backup files at the location specified by me option under  Security Log Backup Location ,and click Browse.

Select the folder location from the Browse for Folder dialog box and click OK.

NOTE:The Backup location should not be the same as the the Security log path and vice-versa.SecureGURU will indicate an error if both the folder paths are identical.

SecureGURU^TM Live Update Settings

SecureGURU will automatically run Live Update on your computer peridocally,based on the number of days specifed.The default frequency is 30 days.However, you can fix the frequency ranging from a minimum value of 1 Day (daily) to the maximum value of 99 Days.

SecureGURU will track the number of days elapsed since the last Live Update session. When the number of days exceeds the configured Live Update frequency(in days),SecureGURU will automatically flash the SecureGURU Live Update Alert and prompt you to update the list of security education themes on your computer.

SecureGURU will automatically download Security Themes based on the categories you select. To mark all categories as selected, click Select All.

SecureGURU^TM Start-up Options

SecureGURU also gives various ad-ons functionality like displaying Legal Notice and setting Transperancy level for SecureGURU System monitor.

SecureGURU gives an option to general user to show a legal Notice (or a warning message) at the time of user logged-in into the system. That means, if any unauthorized user make an attempt to login into the machine, he/she will get the warning message before doing such attempts.

SecureGURU gives an option to set a level of Transperancy to System Monitor. System Admin can set this level of transperancy through slider shown in following screen-shot. SecureGURU will automatically transparent the system monitor to the level he want. 

SecureGURU^TM Screen Saver Display Settings

The SecureGURU Screen Saver will play educational themes on Security in addition to current time and the elapsed time(in hours,minutes or seconds) on your desktop.

You can access SecureGURU Screen Saver settings from the SecureGURU configuration settings dialog and configure the Screen Saver to play an Education Theme of your choice while Windows automatically plays SecureGURU Screen Saver.

Accessing the SecureGURU Screen Saver Themes

To access SecureGURU Screen Saver Settings, click on Screen Saver to
bring up the Display Properties dialog.

Select the SecureGURU Screen Saver (identified as SecGURU) from the list
of Screen savers in the Display Properties dialog.

Configuring SecureGURU Screen Saver

To configure SecureGURU Screen Saver,click on the Settings button in the
Display Properties dialog to bring up the FootPath SecureGURU Screen
Saver Settings dialog.

Click Apply to save Screen Saver settings.Click OK to close the dialog.

To apply SecureGURU Screen saver, click Apply on the Display Properties dialog.

NOTE:

• The configured theme will be automatically played whenever you launch the SecureGURU Security Advisor.

Starting the SecureGURU Security Advisor

To start the SecureGURU Security Advisor,click on the Security Advisor button the SecureGURU System Monitor Console .

Alternately, you can launch SecureGURU Security Advisor from the SecureGURU icon menu.

Right-click on the SecureGURU icon,and select Security Education >> Security Advisor.

SecureGURU Security Advisor ,will automatically play the theme currently configured using the Screen Saver Settings.

To view anyother theme,select a themes from the list of themes on the Advisor Menu.

NOTE:

• SecureGURU Advisor also offers a very convenient way of updating the security education themes on your computer.To get the latest themes, just click on the Live Update button .
• It also displays the Progress Anayzer on the bottom of every themes runs. It shows very useful info like Download Date, Theme first read on, Percent complete, point scored, etc.
• Latest version of SecureGURU Security Advisor also gives right to user to set various priorities of each theme available in list box. User can also easily view various themes in categorized manner by choosing the category from the combo box.

SecureGURU^TM Breach Notification System

SecureGURU is a very powerful monitoring tool capable of detecting any attempted breach by a malicious user and automatically notifying you via its unique Breach Notification System.

In the event of a breach, SecureGURU pops up a breach notification dialog displaying information specific to the breach such as number of attempts, where the breach was attempted from(local or remote), username, time, and the mail sent status etc.

NOTE:

• SecureGURU must be configured for Breach Notification by Email to be able to send notification emails.
• You have to be connected to the internet for breach notification to work successfuly.
• You can also Print the details of all breaches occurred on the system.

SecureGURU^TM Live Update Utility

SecureGURU will automatically run Live Update on your computer,based on the Live Update Frequency specifed in number of days.

Alternately,you can start Live Update manually from the Windows Start Menu.

NOTE:

• You can also,run SecureGURU Live Update from the SecureGURU Security Advisor
• You can set SecureGURU Live Update Frequency in the SecureGURU Live Update Settings.

Running SecureGURU Live Update

To run Live Update Click Next >>

SecureGURU Live Update will list the Security education theme files that are available on the FootPath SecureGURU Server for download.

Select the file to download and click Update Now to initiate download.

NOTE: Make sure that you are connected to the Internet before you click Update Now.

SecureGURU Live Update will display the dowload status at the foot of the Live Update dialog.
